The writer of this content piece believes that where he is today is because of these online platforms.Hi, I love being self-critical and am addicted to self-growth. That’s the exact reason these online platforms suit me, especially when I have to give my best as a full-time Dad and employee. If you sail the same or maybe a similar boat, you might already be looking to grow as a professional via online platforms.

But where do you even start? There is a sea of options when it comes to these online platforms of education.

Well, I have already done the dirty work. Now, I will share only the best platforms that can help you grow in your career or unlock a totally new trajectory.

So, if that sounds interesting to you, let’s hop in and jump into the details.

EdX

This is a fairly new platform that you might not have heard of, but it is good for a few reasons.

EdX was created by Harvard and MIT professors. Well, that says a lot about the credibility of the platform. The learning and the course material are totally free. However, if you want to earn a certificate to showcase on your CV or LinkedIn, that is going to cost $50-$300 (depending on the course).

Coming to the courses, the diversity isn’t there because you will mostly find STEM subjects that are related to business, computer science, engineering, and more. However, it is not all bad because you can find some courses related to language and art.

On top of that, EdX is perfect for those who want a complete career shift because you will be able to earn a Bachelor’s or a Master’s Degree without going to the campus, as it is completely online. Speaking of which, make sure you choose only the top Wifi plans to keep the learning process seamless.

The courses will start at a specific time, but you have the liberty to choose your own learning time. This makes it perfect for professionals.

Coursera

If you need to upskill yourself, Coursera is hands-down the best platform.

Why is it the best? Let me explain.

This one might just be the most recognized online learning platform in the entire world. Whether you are located in Mexico or Norway, employers will recognize the certifications being issued by Coursera.

To put it in simple words, you will have something credible to show for the skills you have learned.

The thing I love the most about Coursera is its diversity. Whether you want to learn to code in Python or just want to level up in social media marketing, you will find a course that is tailored to your needs.

On top of that, you can earn a certificate that doesn’t cost a fortune. If you think that you are from a deserving family, you can get a discount of up to 90%.

The design of the platform is pretty intuitive as well. You can easily navigate from one point to another without much hassle.

However, there are some things that I wish were improved. One thing that comes to mind is the timeline of the course. You have to follow a specific timeline to complete the course and earn a certification.

So, if you can be flexible about the timing of the course, you are going to love Coursera.

Skillshare

Skillshare is built for those who are eager to learn without needing a certification because there isn’t going to be any. It is generally regarded as the platform built by creators for the creators. You will find many of your favorite YouTubers teaching priceless tips to grow an online community.

Since it is created by digital creators, you will find niche skills on this platform that can’t be found anywhere else. I am talking about the art of storytelling, writing, editing, and much more.

Does it sound like a platform only for YouTubers? Well, if it does, it isn’t true because you will find some courses related to STEM subjects like software engineering, business, entrepreneurship, and more.

Oh, and I like the fact that you can purchase a subscription for a month, and that’s it. For that month, you can learn as many courses as you want without worrying about the limit.

All in all, it is a great platform that can be helpful for lifelong learners.

freeCodeCamp

Computer science is one of the most in-demand skills, so I had to include freeCodeCamp.

Like Skillshare, freeCodeCamp is a platform built for software developers. Oh, and unlike Skillshare, this platform is completely free. You don’t need money for it, but you need time and attention to earn a certification.

The courses generally focus on web development. It will start with the basics of web – HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. You will learn step by step at your own pace because the platform totally relies on self-learning.

Speaking of which, the course material can be huge, and there is no support from the instructor. So, you are on your own to get the hang of things. That’s the only drawback of this platform.

Well, that is it for the platforms. It is time to fasten your seatbelt and start your upskilling journey. Lastly, in case I have missed some of the platforms that should be in my list, you are welcome to drop them in the comments.
